From Alcohol To Sugar: The Short Jaunt

A 2-part series I wrote for Spring Gardens Detox Centre in Spring Hill, Florida was published and I wanted to share it with you, here, as well.

You see, for me, sugar came back into my life with a vengeance as soon as I quit drinking, and I know this is a common story for a lot of us in recovery. This addiction transfer, or cross-addiction, happens when we don’t heal the first addiction and our brains and bodies look for something else to give us a rush. When we cut one thing out of our lives, without the proper tools, we can fall for another seductive substance to fill the void.

Sugar is a popular choice because it is so incredibly easy to score–hell, it is marketed to children–and it lights up the same reward centres in our brains as drugs do.

Because it IS a drug.

And sugar feeeeels gooooood.

Here is Part 1 of the 2-part series. And here is Part 2. I would love your feedback on it if you have struggled in the same way I did or if you have found strategies that have helped you keep your sugar monster at bay.

Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.

P.S. I have not had the opportunity to visit Spring Gardens Detox, but I have heard wonderful things and my friend, Lara Frazier, is the Marketing Coordinator there. What I like is the holistic approach they take with their clients. From their website, “Spring Gardens is an amenity-rich drug and alcohol detox center focused on healing the mind, body, and soul. Here, we specialize in traditional and leading-edge detox and treatment approaches for those afflicted. Providing the utmost care and comfort while eliminating the fear and pain associated with detox is what makes our Spring Hill facility the number one location for comfortable, pain-free help.” If you, or someone you love, is in need of treatment, please consider Spring Gardens.

P.P.PS. Let’s be friends! I’d love to connect on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram. Plus, if you haven’t already subscribed to my blog, you should! That way, you won’t miss anything and just for signing up, you’ll receive my 14 days of wellness (email series where you get an email a day for 2 weeks). It’s FREE, with no catches, so I’d love you to experience it. https://sarahtalksfood.com/
