We are Earthlings. Not Canadians. Not Americans. Not Chinese, Indian or Australian. We are Earthlings. We ALL belong to ONE planet; ONE earth. To each other.
We ALL belong HERE. No ONE person has any greater right to be here than any other person. When we fall under the spell–even for a moment–that we are more important or worthy or have a greater right to be here than any other person who has been born here, on earth, we must realize that we have become separated from the part of us that is REAL.
We all kind of know it, too. Whenever we judge others for their job or their home or their car or their appearance or their religious beliefs or their status, we feel that separation inside of us; the feeling of superiority and judgment that leaves us feeling empty in a lot of ways. We might lie to ourselves and believe that it feels good to place ourselves “higher” than someone else.
But it doesn’t.
It’s the BIG lie we’ve been sold that to get ahead means to push others down.
It doesn’t have to be that way. We CAN choose differently.
On a global scale, we can forget that we don’t all share the same world view. We have very different cultures and values and social norms. In the moments we want to judge, criticize or condemn, we have to remember that we each view the world through our own lens. There is no one definition of “reality”; rather, we each create our own reality.
Because the truth is, that while we can go around believing whatever it is we choose to believe, we do NOT have the right to hurt other people because their beliefs don’t match our own.
I started off saying that we are Earthlings. We could also say we are Africans, if you choose to believe–as I do– that we all originated there, the cradle of humanity, about 200,000 years ago. And from there, about 60,000 years ago, we began walking. We populated the earth and continue to populate it today. More than 7 billion and counting. And we ALL have a right to be here. On Earth. These invisible lines that separate us don’t mean that we need to feel separate. We are meant to be here, and imagine all we could learn if we took the time to listen to others’ points of view; if we could put ourselves in others’ shoes and experience the world in a different way.
Each of us was born for a purpose. Your spark was ignited because you were MEANT to be here. No matter where you live on our shared planet.
We are all ONE family: a HUMAN family. We are Earthlings and I want us to remember that we can ALL do our part to treat ourselves, one another, and our planet with the dignity and respect they deserve.
We only get ONE.
One planet. One life. One body. One shot. We mustn’t squander our one life on things and thoughts and beliefs and habits that keep us small. We are meant to shine bright in our lives! And we need to be mindful that we don’t just go through things for ourselves; we go through them for others. Let’s leave this next generation a better planet than we are on track to leave them. Let’s do our work and clean up our act and treat our planet with the respect it deserves. Let’s choose love and compassion and acceptance over hate and judgment and bigotry.
Let’s start NOW.
We CAN do this.
And it might just be the thing we need to do to heal our broken home.
But it will take each and every one of us.
Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.
P.S. When I was 19, I took an anthropology course at university. I was fascinated with how we are all connected; where we all came from. If you’ve never watched Spencer Wells’ “The Journey of Man”, I highly, highly recommend. Here is his Ted Talk, where he explains how we are originated in Africa; how we are all ONE.
P.P.S. If you’d like to learn a little about me and the things I teach in my One Bite At A Time coaching program, I did a live training recently called:“The Truth About Sugar and How To Live A Life Of Freedom Around Food.”
