I have been sharing a lot lately about my desire to have more REAL conversations. More REAL connections with people. More REAL talk about the issues that REALLY matter and not focus so much on the superficial or the trivial.
I am thrilled to report that it’s been working.
I have had some of the most soul-affirming, powerful conversations of my life recently, and I am incredibly grateful to those who have shared their truths with me. It has brought so much healing and renewed hope, and I can not wait to have MORE of these kinds of conversations as I continue my own journey towards greater health and wellness.
I believe that with each layer we peel away, the closer we get to becoming who we REALLY are.
It is a freedom we all deserve and yet often struggle to find.
I am on a mission to help us find it.
I believe the time has come for us to pull back the curtain and show people who we REALLY are rather than highlighting only the prettiest parts that make us appear to have it all figured out. Because NO ONE has it all figured out! We ALL struggle in certain areas, and it is in the willingness to truly look at our lives–and the results we are creating–that we are able to experience real, lasting change.
As you probably know, I got sober when I was 29, but I felt so much shame and stigma around my addiction AND my recovery, that I isolated. I felt like I was completely alone—the ONLY person in the world who must be feeling the way I was. Remember, 16 years ago was before Facebook and blogs and forums, and today’s world helps us become so much more connected. Yes, we need to be mindful of how much time we spend on social media, but there is no doubt that the world has grown smaller because of the power it has to connect us. It allows us to see others who have been where we are, and that gives us HOPE that if they can do it, maybe, just maybe, we can do it, too.
With that in mind, I want to share with you–my faithful followers–my BIG news!!
I am launching my very own weekly talk show starting Sunday, September 16th at 8 pm EST! I am beyond excited to get to sit down with REAL people and AMAZING experts and talk about what’s REALLY going on with our mental, emotional and physical health.
When I got sober, I didn’t want to tell anybody the truth. I lied instead, and I told people that I didn’t drink because I had suddenly seen the light and I was now into health and fitness. While this wasn’t entirely true, I can look back now and see how my addiction and my recovery were perfectly placed in my life to teach me things and to prepare me for things that were coming.
This show is part of that.
And while, yes, we will certainly be talking about food, diet and exercise, we are going to go deeper into the things we don’t often talk about but that are VITAL to our health—things that are often even REQUIRED if we are going to enjoy any real, lasting health and wellness in our lives. We are going to talk about shame. And grief. And pain. And mental illness. And addiction. And we are going to meet amazing experts who will show us what’s possible and how to get there. By TALKING.
I believe our secrets keep us sick.
I believe we are each other’s keepers.
And I want everyone to know that no matter what’s going on and no matter how bad it may seem, we are never, ever alone.
If you live in the Ottawa area, I hope you’ll tune in to Rogers Channel 22 starting on Sunday, September 16th at 8 pm EST. If we aren’t neighbours, I hope you’ll join us on Facebook, where we will be livestreaming the show. I hope you call in and post comments and ask questions and make suggestions…I WANT to hear from you and I can not WAIT to have more REALTalk with you!
Thank you for always believing in me even when I’ve doubted myself. I have never had my own TV show and–understandably–I have fear around it. But I also have excitement! And joy! And wonder! And I am choosing to focus more on the excitement, the joy and the wonder and less on the fear that I have NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING and the fact that it is LIVE television and ANYTHING can happen (including me making a complete fool of myself), so I will lean into your love and support as we embark on this journey–together.
Because I believe that we are more similar than we are different.
Because I believe this experience will help me get closer to who I really am by helping others do the same.
Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.
P.S. Sunday September 16th at 8 pm EST is the first of 12 episodes of REALTalk With Sarah, and will be broadcast live on Rogers channel 22 in Ottawa. We will also livestream to Facebook.
