Sarah Talks Food...For The Soul!
If you’ve been with me from the start, you’ll know that much of what I aim to do with this blog is to help people to know that they are not alone. Sharing our stories takes courage, but it is so freeing when we share ourselves with others.
I am so grateful that Kathie Donovan has written her book Inspiration in Action: A Woman’s Guide to Happiness and that she sat down with me today to talk about some key principles from the book. Kathie is one amazing woman with a lot to share, so I hope you join us for this powerful conversation.
About Kathie
Kathie Donovan was born in Vancouver and raised in Montreal, before moving to the Ottawa area over thirty years ago.
In June, 2012, Kathie Donovan stepped down as co-host and co-producer of the weekly television program Regional Contact after 24 years with the station, 14 of them on that show. The program highlights people in the Ottawa area who are following their passion.
Being inspired by the many amazing people she met while doing the show, Kathie wanted to pursue her dream of writing her book Inspiration in Action: A Woman’s Guide to Happiness in order to “start helping people to discover their own magnificence.”
Well, she has exceeded her goal! She has indeed written the book and has also created The Course in Happiness as well as Inspiration In Action Television.
The Connection
As I read through the pages of Kathie’s book, I kept marveling at the similarities between my life and hers. Although we have taken different roads in our lives, I couldn’t help but feel that the roads were connected in some way. I am so glad I found my way to her.
Kathie was a drug-abuser as a young woman. She was a smoker. She was in unhealthy relationships. She had a tumultuous relationship with her mother. I could relate to so much of her story.
When I arrived at the part in the book where she declares that it was the movie “The Secret” that turned her on to the Law of Attraction, I just knew I had to sit down and talk to this woman!
If you’ve been following my story, you’ll know that using the Law of Attraction, and recognizing its key principles, has completely changed the course of my life. I love Kathie’s definition of “co-creating our lives” with the law so that we can “do more, have more and be more.”
Power Tools
In Kathie’s book, there are 8 principles that she calls “Power Tools”, that lead us to happiness. One of them is Courage. In this conversation, you’ll hear Kathie talk about how we can ask fear to “sit down” and call upon courage to help us through a scary situation. I loved it!
Another Power tool Kathie writes about is Surrender and Release. I wanted to dive deeper into the concept of not only decluttering our physical space but also removing the relationships in our lives that are no longer serving us. Kathie talks about how we can shift away from those relationships with ease and grace.
And, just as the law of attraction works, a few hours after my conversation with Kathie, I met a woman who is in a relationship that isn’t fulfilling. She is a go-getter and highly successful in her business, and I got the sense that her boyfriend was not driven by a passion. She is a fitness enthusiast and loves being healthy. He is a smoker who keeps promising her he’ll quit.
I reminded this woman of her own magnificence and that it might serve her to make a list of her values and what she wants in a life partner. If it becomes clear that this current relationship is not fulfilling, perhaps she will find that she needs to surrender and release.
Kathie reminds us that it is not our job to change people; we can only change ourselves. We get to choose how we react to any situation that presents itself in our lives. We alone hold that power.
Kathie shares her deeply personal story, after years of therapy, of how she used Forgiveness, another power tool, to improve her relationship with her mother, and I share with you that I have done the same with my own mom. Before Kathie’s mother passed, they had come to a very peaceful place in their relationship. I am blessed to have a healthy relationship with my mom today, thanks to the principles of gratitude, forgiveness and surrender and release.
We ARE Enough
Throughout this conversation with Kathie, we discover her thoughts on “being happy”, on being enough, and in realizing that happiness is an “inside job”. Kathie reminds us that we all deserve happiness.
On page 1 of her book, Kathie shares that the little voice that said “who am I to write this book?” played repeatedly in her head! Luckily for us, she did write this book. Because she realized “who am I NOT to”. I think we can all relate to that voice that tells us “we’re not good enough”, but Kathie reminds us that we are indeed magnificent and that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Thank you, Kathie.
If you don’t already own a copy of Inspiration In Action: A Woman’s Guide To Happiness, I highly recommend it if you are seeking greater happiness and fulfillment in your life. She offers many excellent actionable steps we can take, and there are exercises at the end of each chapter that help reaffirm the key concepts and help us to utilize the power tools.
I hope you enjoy watching this enlightening conversation with Kathie Donovan.
Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.

June 12, 2015Anna, I can relate to the feeling if not connecting to people who aren’t on the same “wavelength”. I love that Kathy talks about only sharing herself freely with certain people. And that it is okay to release relationships that no longer serve us. Not everyone can understand the path you are on. I highly recommend Kathie’s work and I know you’ll get a lot from it! It is lovely to know you’ve enjoyed a 33 year commitment with your husband! Wow 🙂 Well done. 🙂
