Today I am sharing an article I wrote for The Recovery Village, a treatment centre that offers a personalized approach to recovery with various locations in the U.S. I encourage you to check them out as they are doing amazing work.
Here is the link to the article.
Since writing my book and sharing my story, I have been able to connect with many more people and enjoy many more opportunities career-wise. It is amazing what happens when we come out of the shadows and tell the truth. People raise their hands and say, “me too.”
In this piece, I share a little more about my story, going back to an inciting incident when I was a young teenager and moving through some earlier phases that informed my journey.
It is my belief that we recover when we work through the pain of our past and use the story of our lives to make sense of things and inform our journey moving forward. This is certainly what is working for me and what’s allowing me to heal. Being able to look back and see where things changed or shifted in my life helps me to understand more about myself and it helps me to change the way I handle stressful situations in my life now.
I don’t believe in regrets. I believe in life teaching lessons in every moment. It is up to us if we choose to heed the lessons or keep repeating them, like I did…for years.
I hope this post serves you if you struggle with addiction or a painful past or with making mistakes that you feel can’t be fixed.
Because nothing is permanent.
Because we are allowed to change.
Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.
P.S. What’s YOUR story? Do you have a desire to write about your life? I am putting together a Writer’s Retreat, an online program that will teach you how to write your story–from start to finish–and self-publish your book, either to sell to others or to simply have for yourself. If you are someone in recovery (from anything) and you want to write your story to heal yourself and help others, send me an email at Sarah@SarahTalksFood.com and I will add you to the list. Class starts soon!
P.P.S. If you would like to make a change in your life and create a new relationship with food, The 6 Week Sugar Freedom eCourse might be for you. You will be surrounded by a group of like-minded people who will support you. I encourage you to join us here.
P.P.P.S. Let’s be friends! I’d love you to connect with me on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram. Plus, if you haven’t already subscribed to my blog, you should! That way, you won’t miss anything.
