My BIG News!

Finally! I am so excited to share my big news with you!  I love that I get to fill you in on the big picture stuff and also the details, so, first, a little back story.

If you’ve been following along with my journey, you’ll know that today, Roger and I work together in the online marketing world. We help experts share their message by teaching them how to build information products that they sell online.

A few years ago, after the health studio closed, we took over that space and converted it into an event space, and later into a video studio. Roger and I were struggling to make money, carve out a niche, and figure out our business model. We had switched gears from health and events, to video and marketing.

We had severed a relationship with some people who had wanted to partner with us, which cost us a lot of time and money. It was a challenging time. We were broke, and we were broken. But we had hope.

Serving Others

We had no idea how, but we knew we wanted to give back to all the people who had supported us over the years. We planned an event, in alignment with Startup Canada, to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship week.  We called it the Ethos Mentorship Event. We had three distinct themes throughout the day: a trade show style daytime event with hand-selected entrepreneurs sharing their wisdom and experience with attendees; the early evening portion with an expert panel of top entrepreneurs in Ottawa who have made big names for themselves through their success in business; and the evening portion of open networking among attendees and our esteemed guests.

One of our panel experts was New York Times best-selling author and online marketing expert, Peggy McColl. Now, you might remember me telling you, in my first blog post, about the “Just Say Yes” event I attended in 2009 where I wrote a letter to myself 3 months into the future. It was at that event that I first met Peggy in person. She was interviewed on stage, and so I got a sense of this strong and influential woman. So, when we were considering people for the Ethos event, she was at the top of my list. I had really connected with her energy that day, and we were thrilled that her schedule allowed her to join us. She shared some amazing insights and she inspired many people with her no-nonsense approach to setting goals, getting things done and making money. She is a perfect manifestation of the law of attraction in action, and she has shared the stage (and a lift on his private jet!) with Bob Proctor on several occasions.

Moving Forward

That event was powerful for us on more than one level. We were inspired by the insights we received from all that knowledge in the room, but we also filled our cups. The connection to others and the feeling of community was palpable. It was rejuvenating! Armed with this new energy, we were able to secure more clients after the event and began working with them. Roger and I pushed through the barriers and kept learning, piece by piece, what we needed to know to advance our business. I continued to wait tables in the evenings to make ends meet. Roger spent his days and his nights studying video technology and how to use video for marketing. He researched everything he could get his hands on in the Internet marketing world that would help us make this business work.

We kept the studio to do one-on-one work with our clients, but once we shifted from “one-on-one” to “one-to-many” (via webinars and trainings), we realized that the studio was dead weight. In May 2014, we closed the doors on that special space that had meant so much to us. The time had come to spread our wings, and although the studio will always hold a special place in our hearts, we both consider that decision one of the best ones we have made so far. It has been so freeing to be able to work from anywhere and not be tied to a physical location.

Manifesting My Dreams

A few months ago, I was working away building an online product for one of our clients. Something I was writing reminded me of a list I had written in a book called “Where Will You Be 5 Years From Today?” It was a lovely little “play book” and I had bought it as a Christmas gift to myself, before traveling to the Grand Canyon. One of the pages asks you to write down your dreams so that they turn into goals.

The very first thing I had written down on my list was “I will write an award-winning screenplay and/or book”. Here is the rest of the list:

2. I will start a movement for recovering alcoholics who want to enjoy life more.
3. I will develop strong and healthy relationships with several people.
4. I will meet a partner.
5. I will get and stay in the best physical shape of my life.

So, although I can’t say that I have accomplished everything on the list within that 5 year time frame (I bought it late December, 2008), I can scratch off #’s 3, 4,5…..and guess what….here comes the big news I have been dying to share with you….soon, I’ll be able to scratch off…

Number 1 !!!!!

My BIG news that I’ve been dying to share with you is that I am writing a book!!!!!!

Thanks to the law of attraction and the amazing Peggy McColl, my dream is going to become a reality.

Here's How It All Went Down

So, let me fill you in on how it all happened.

Tuesday, I launch my blog. On Wednesday, I message Peggy McColl asking if she would consider taking a read of it when she gets time, as I would love to interview her for a future blog post on using the law of attraction to achieve a life we love.

A few hours later, the following happens: Not only does she agree to do the interview, she informs me that there has been a cancellation in her “Peggy’s Kitchen Table” book-writing mastermind on Friday and that I should consider attending! But here is the best part!! This is what she wrote:

“I was looking at your blog and thought WOW she has content for a great book here…you have a gift…it is phenomenal…Very real. Very compelling”.

Imagine!! Me???!!! What??!! I was DYING!!! Peggy McColl is saying those words about me!! OMG OMG OMG!!! I danced around the living room and freaked out for a while….and then reality set in.

I was booked solid on Friday, and really couldn’t imagine being able to get out of my commitments. So with tears in my eyes and the most incredible disappointment, I had to decline Peggy’s invitation. I was devastated!! I suggested that I would love to attend the next “Peggy’s Kitchen Table” (which, by the way, she never plans in advance) and asked that she keep me in the loop. I go on and on offering my gratitude for the opportunity and for her encouraging words, along with my disappointment for declining, to which Peggy responds with….

NOTHING!

Nothing! Not a single word from her while I am madly messaging and going crazy… But wait, IT GETS BETTER!!!

I get quiet for a minute and I decide that this is WAY too important to miss, and so I send some messages and make some phone calls, I call in some favours, and through the generosity of amazing people, I am able to rearrange my schedule. I message Peggy back (who is in Las Vegas with Bob Proctor as we are communicating), and I tell her I have figured it out and that I would LOVE to be there on Friday if the spot is still available!

She immediately sends back this response that I would like to share with you, as it will give you a sense of this incredible woman. Here it is:

“I had a feeling that would work. My intuition was strong on that. So happy you are joining us. You have a PHENOMENAL book in you. Can’t wait for the world to read it. This is your calling.”

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

Can someone seriously pinch me???

So, I can hardly sleep for two nights, and on Friday morning, I arrive at Peggy’s incredible home (it is stunningly gorgeous) and spend one of the best days of my life, surrounded by several authors and other soon-to-be-authors. The energy of that space was powerful and electric. Throughout the course of the day, Peggy had us going through exercises and working on various pieces, and so I left with a good framework for my book and I also have a name for it (thank you, Peggy!!) that I will share when the book is released. I will never forget that day and I will be forever grateful for Peggy’s confidence in me. She makes me truly believe that I can, and I will, accomplish this goal and that my book will be a best seller. I believe it too…because her intuition is strong. 🙂

Peggy believes that we all have a book in us. I know that not everyone will get the chance to work with her, but if you believe you have a book in you, then please find a way. She is so incredibly intuitive and smart and she knows how to get things done. Which means that you’ll get things done. Connect with her at peggymccoll.com and follow her on Facebook.  You’ll be glad you did.

Let's Get Back To You

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share in my good news! It feels a little self-indulgent but I am just so excited and wanted to tell you about my experience. Plus, I am really accountable now…there’s no going back!

So, in order to provide some counterbalance, I have a little homework for you. I promise it’s awesome homework! Here it is:

I would like you to get quiet for a few minutes and write down a list of things (it can even just be one thing) that you really want in your life.

Think about past dreams that perhaps you’ve set aside.

Think about your current situation and what you’d like to see changed.

Think about skills and talents that you have (or that people compliment you on) that you may not be fully utilizing.

Think about that thing you’ve always wanted, but perhaps never had the courage to go after. Perhaps you felt you didn’t know how it could ever happen, or perhaps you don’t have the resources.

Whatever it is, write it down. But even better than the way I wrote my list, I want you to write it in the present tense. For example, instead of “I will”, use “I have”. Also, avoid saying things like “I am no longer sick” or “I am out of debt”, because the universe just hears “sick” and “debt”. Remember, the universe doesn’t differentiate between positive and negative.

So instead of answering the question “where will I be 5 years from now?”, answer the question “what do I have in my life now?” So, for example “I have achieved my ideal weight”, “I have $10,000 in my savings account”, “I am on holiday in Italy for our 30th anniversary”, “I am using my artistic skills in my career” etc… Write it as if you already possess it.

Two caveats:

  1. It has to be somewhat realistic for you. I say “somewhat” because I want you to dream! But if you are a teacher, for example, and you say “I have a million dollars in the bank”, you had better have some kind of a plan to do what it takes to make that happen. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for teachers becoming millionaires, and I know a few, but they have alternate revenue streams (like real estate investment, a partnership in a business, or a side career). My point is you will have greater success if you have the skills, talent and ability to make your dream come true because, and here comes caveat number 2;
  2. You must truly believe, deep down, that you will be able to achieve these goals. Setting the intention and then focusing on that goal is what will help the universe to bring in the tools and resources you need to accomplish it. Get crystal clear on what it is you want, and you’ll be amazed at how your life will change. But you have to really, really want it. You must be able to visualize exactly what it looks like to have it. You need to be able to feel what it’s like to have it so that you can change your vibration to an energy that already possesses it. So I encourage you to choose things that are your deepest desires.

That’s it! That’s your homework. Get clear on what it is you want. Write it down on a card that you carry with you. Read that card (preferably out loud) several times a day. And really feel the words. Imagine what your life is like when you have that thing.

I can’t wait to hear how this works for you. Please, if you have some good news to share, I would really love to hear about it in the comments below so that I can congratulate you and share in your excitement. 🙂 And if you’d like to share your list, perhaps there is someone else here who can help you achieve your goals.

Because I want you to love your life one bite at a time.

P.S. If the Law of attraction is a new concept for you, then the movie The Secret (and the book), it is a nice, easy place to start. If you have, and you want to go deeper, I recommend Peggy McColl’s “Be a Dog with a Bone”, Wallace Wattles’ “The Science of Getting Rich” and Napoleon Hill’s classic text “Think and Grow Rich”.

P.P.S Let’s be friends! Connect with me on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram. 🙂

Sarah I can’t tell you how excited I got reading your post. I believe in the Law of Attraction and know how it can work when you keep your focus! Congratulations!! My BIG dream has begun with more to come. Single Parenting for Success is my baby – the one that is going to help move single parents and their children up and out! We are going to have more successful single parents that truly believe they are spectacular individuals raising children that are self-confident, empathetic, intelligent, highly functional members of our communities. As I share my dream with others, many are coming on board to collaborate. So many confirm that what I am envisioning and creating is greatly needed. I’m a single mom who has raised two young men (now in their 20s) with some support from very special individuals in my life. We are creating a community of support, a “family” that is continuous support – I have a long way to go, but I dream about it every day. I have created a booklet that I update regularily – from vision to reality. this has been morphing for 2 years.

I believe… everyone should believe… and yes… speaking of it in the present is a must. Thank you for sharing this!! P.S. I’ve been told I am a fantastic writer… I know there’s a book in me… I’ve got a journey that will be written in the first chapter of our Single Parenting for Success Book…Single parents sharing stories, strategies, challenges and success. This too is a best seller!!
